Not just Olbia. Groups of migrants are also creating tension and fear at the "Nino Pala" maritime station in the commercial port of Porto Torres . In recent days, they have shown up at the counters of various shipping company agencies without valid identification, showing only a sheet of paper with a photo attached—no identification needed to identify them and not enough to issue a boarding ticket. Some of them have insisted, using threatening and verbally abusive tones, on obtaining a valid travel ticket from the operators to board the ship . "We were forced to request the intervention of the police, for the safety of the staff working in the station offices," says Antonio Delrio, an operator for the Tirrenia maritime agency.
The groups of migrants, mostly young and of Algerian origin, landed in Sardinia in recent days and were subsequently hosted in reception centers in Monastir and the Cagliari area. Those who wish to leave the island, or are forced to do so because they have received a removal order, head for northern ports to board ships, but the companies deny them boarding due to lack of documentation.
At the Turritano port station, migrants attempted to bypass the checkpoints; some attempted to board heavy vehicles preparing for boarding . They were stopped thanks to the intervention of Carabinieri from the local company and the guards who monitor the port area. "This situation must be taken seriously, with the presence of a security service necessary to ensure the protection of the workers who work with the attendant risks and dangers."
