Family doctors also wanted for those who do not suffer from serious illnesses. This is what patients who in Porto Torres, as in other urban centres, suffer from a lack of assistance that is becoming a real emergency have been asking for some time.

The ASL management of Sassari specifies that the citizens of Porto Torres currently without a general practitioner would be about a thousand, and that the doctor Gustavo Lai, with a temporary assignment, follows 1,500 patients.

"The decision to give priority to the most fragile people, such as the elderly and people with serious pathologies, in the official assignment of the General Practitioner - underlines the ASL company management - is an ethical decision, so as to guarantee assistance to those might need it more."

The consequence of this orientation has led to assigning the doctor to all over 57 years of age, as well as obviously to people with pathologies. In the meantime, the ASL offices are now engaged in quickly concluding the procedural process for the activation of the extraordinary clinics of territorial communities (Ascot) with a call that expired on 30 July, so as to guarantee continuity of care for citizens without a general practitioner .

Most of the doctors present in the Porto Torres – Stintino area have given their willingness to increase the ceiling up to 1800 patients, and at the moment over 800 patients have been accepted. A further thousand are followed by Dr. Ruiu, while the medical guard is active in the city for the approximately one thousand patients without a doctor.
