Mario Bassu, former councilor of the Municipality of Porto Torres, teacher at the Nautical Technical Institute "Mario Paglietti", engineer and a well-known figure, in the city and beyond, for his many projects that have changed the face of the territory, has died at the age of 65.

Originally from Fonni, he had been living in Porto Torres for a long time . He died after a long illness, which he fought with strength and tenacity, remaining active in the interest of the city, where he was appreciated for his skills and qualities as a professional, capable of changing the image of a neighborhood or a street, thanks to his aesthetic taste and his ability and competence in solving any urban planning problem.

He held the position of councilor with responsibility for Public Works, from '93 to '95 , in the council led by mayor Dino Dessì. His signature is imprinted on many road resurfacing projects, he appears among the "fathers" of the Balai park and the historic San Gavino park, as well as the important infrastructure of the Colombo bridge.

"He left his mark on everyone who knew him, he lived the city in all its places" is the testimony of many friends. "A man gifted with simplicity and great technical skills, he did things that few can do", said the doctor Giovanni Manca. "A delightful and generous person like few others," he adds, "available to everyone, a professional who, thanks to his preparation, did not disdain advice to anyone. He faced his long illness in the best way, without giving up for over ten years, fighting and remaining among the people".

He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
