The arrest occurred during routine checks on vehicles and passengers arriving from the Tirrenia and Grimaldi motor vessels from Genoa, Barcelona and Civitavecchia. The man, driving a vehicle with French license plates, attracted the attention of the military both for his behavior and for the reasons for the trip . Hence the decision to carry out a more thorough check with the help of canine units, at the end of which a sophisticated double bottom was discovered hidden in the passenger compartment . The secret compartment, equipped with a mechanical opening system, held, among other things, a machete with a 36-centimeter blade, a silencer and three revolver drums as well as ammunition .

Subsequently, the extensive search of the arrested person's home and carried out by personnel from the Sanluri Tenancy, together with a cash dog from the Pronto Impiego company of Cagliari, allowed them to find and seize four pistols with ammunition, one of which had no serial number, two long weapons, various ammunition ready for use as well as various components of the same to be assembled, as well as the sum of approximately 3,500 euros . At the end of the operations, the 63-year-old was arrested and taken to the Bancali Prison, at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Sassari.
