"This church is a beautiful place and reminds us that in the presence of the Martyrs, we cannot settle for mediocrity. We cannot think it's too complicated, but we must believe that it can be done, not alone, but with everyone's help." Parish Priest Don Michele Murgia, in the Mass concelebrated in the splendid Basilica of San Gavino in Porto Torres, along with Monsignor Salvatore Masia and Don Andrea Stara, as well as other priests of the diocese, drew inspiration from the Passio to recall the story of faith of the Protomartyrs of Turritani, the true identity of a city willing to roll up its sleeves and work for the common good. On the day of the opening of the celebrations and the procession of the three Saints Gavino, Proto, and Gianuario, the emphasis was on the courage and strength of the Martyrs. "They testify to us how day and night, despite what was happening, they dedicated themselves to the faith, to working for others, fighting even in a time of persecution, showing courage despite contrary laws and despite all dangers, without taking the time to proclaim that Christ died and was risen."

In the words of Don Murgia, the city, its men and women, were invited to not be afraid, to show passion and courage even at the risk of losing. At the end of the Mass, the wooden statues were carried on the shoulders of the portatores in religious silence, followed by the flags and the Etnos and Intragnas groups in traditional costume, a long procession punctuated by the parish priest's prayers and the music of the Sennori city band. A large crowd accompanied the 18th-century statues in procession, crossing Via Sassari and Via Balai, toward the Piazzale dei Caduti della Corazzata Roma, where they rested for about an hour before being transferred to the basilica's crypt. The faithful will be able to come there daily to pray to their patron saints. The statues will remain there until May 24th.

On Saturday, May 23, at 10:00 p.m., the "Night Pilgrimage," organized by the Archdiocese of Sassari, will depart from the Cathedral of San Nicola in Sassari and head to the Basilica of San Gavino, where the Pilgrim's Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 a.m. The following day, Pentecost Sunday, at 5:00 p.m., the steps of the small church of Balai Vicino will be the setting for the historical reenactment in traditional medieval dress, "The Dream of Comita," organized by the Giudicato di Torres Association. Later, at 6:00 p.m., a Eucharistic celebration will be held in Balai Park, presided over by Monsignor Salvatore Masia and concelebrated by the city's parish priests and priests. At 7:00 p.m., the solemn procession accompanying the return of the statues of the Holy Martyrs of Sassari to the Basilica of San Gavino will begin from Balai Park.
