English teacher and intellectual, a staunch socialist, and a lover of the sea. The city of Porto Torres bids farewell to Antonio Masala, a teacher at the Porto Torres scientific high school.

He passed away silently at the age of 95, after a life dedicated to teaching.

First a teacher and then a lecturer at the Europa Unita scientific high school, Masala never seemed to be in the classroom, but behind the desks, alongside his students, sparking interest and attention in his immense culture. None of his many students will ever forget his spirit of justice, his hunger for knowledge, his unconventional and unprejudiced thinking , even during class, when they went beyond the subject of English and discussed everything, because the world fascinated him.

He loved the sea, to which he devoted hours of his free time, and he adored chatting with the linguist Gian Paolo Bazzoni, another great intellectual from Turri who passed away eleven years ago. They had different views, but both were progressive and capable of attracting attention with their critical thinking, always expressed with a distinctive sense of humor. Now they will find themselves together discussing their passions.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 10, in the Basilica of San Gavino.
