A week after the fire that devastated the warehouses , former depots of the Italian railway network, not far from the centre of Porto Torres, a stretch of Via Azuni remains off limits , with access prohibited to pedestrians and vehicles.
Adjacent to the damaged structures is the headquarters of the Avis association, which awaits decisive action to enable it to operate more safely . This emergency service deploys rescue vehicles in the area surrounding the warehouse walls.
The burned buildings, still owned by the Sardinia Region, will be handed over to the Municipality of Porto Torres , a formal step that will allow the municipal administration to proceed with securing them, pending demolition to make way for the development of an area intended for parking.
New parking areas in an area that will be transformed, along with the entire hinterland area where the La Piccola complex is located, including the maritime station, Via Basso, the adjacent car parks and the Port Museum.
The area is also affected by a new road plan that includes Via Mare.
