He begs, sees the police, and runs away in fear, only to be arrested. Yesterday in Porto Torres, in front of a supermarket, a 35-year-old non-EU citizen was begging for money, unaware that a mayoral ordinance prohibiting begging is in effect throughout the municipality until October 31st.
At the sight of the State Police officers, the man, fearful of possible deportation, ran away, but didn't go far. Arrested for resisting a public officer, the man was taken to court this morning in Sassari for a validation hearing, where he was represented by Andrea Devoto, while Antonio Piras acted as prosecutor.
Judge Sara Pelicci validated the arrest without ordering precautionary measures.
