A total of 14 million euros to complete the reclamation of the areas formerly occupied by Vinyls plants , in the production area of Porto Torres . That industrial area related to the bankruptcy of Vinyls Italia SpA, symbol of the workers' struggle within the site of national interest, thanks to the reclamation work could represent a place for the development of other enterprises.

The resources in favor of the Provincial Industrial Consortium of Sassari come in part from the Social Cohesion Fund, 8 million and 100 thousand euros , with co-financing by the consortium body of 5 million and 900 thousand euros , resources destined for the reclamation works of the unsaturated soils in the "CVM" area and of the underground waters in the "PVC" area, both in the Vinyls bankruptcy area.

The Industrial Consortium is the implementing body delegated by the Region for the remediation of "orphan sites", that is, a potentially contaminated area for which the person responsible for the pollution cannot be identified or does not comply with the law. The areas relating to the former Vinyls Italia fall within this framework.

The company had taken over from Ineos, in 2009, a plant that operated in the former petrochemical plant of Porto Torres for the production of PVC. After several years in a state of insolvency, it was declared bankrupt in 2013, leaving behind a serious state of environmental pollution, also caused by previous management. In this context, the Consortium has already operated, as an executing body on behalf of the Region, with previous interventions to secure 8 tanks, which contained residues from the old production. Approximately 1.6 million euros have already been spent on these interventions, financed by Ras.
