It was the celebration not to succumb to the end of the summer and to prolong the fun of the holidaymakers of the golden seasons, when the pioneers of the village stayed to follow the construction works of villas, houses and docks. Having become an auspicious tradition for forty years, the Squid Festival returns to Porto Rotondo again this year. And it triumphs, despite the uncertain weather: fires lit at midday, Piazza San Marco came alive today for the traditional farewell to the summer season now behind us. Two snakes queuing to taste six quintals of squid, browned in six hundred liters of oil by the expert hands of about ten chefs from the Gallura Chefs Association, served in parcels (strictly eco-compostable) by thirty volunteers, working from cutting the squid to the their packaging, washed down with one hundred and twenty liters of Vermentino di Gallura from the Monti social winery and over four hundred of beer.

Among the stands, coming from all over the island, of the exhibition market of typical products and artistic artefacts, the dishes of Francesco Roccaforte DJ, the live music of the band Ilvolo, the Halloween flash mobs of the Blackswan dancers.

It's almost impossible to find a parking space in the streets of the village after 12pm, having stormed the dirt spaces outside, the Porto Rotondo natural shopping centre, which organizes the event, has doubled doses and pans: an extra quintal of squid compared to previous editions, with last year's record one in which the frying finished earlier than expected, and the addition of a large saucepan so as not to leave customers high and dry for too long.
