Some beach operators in Porto Pino joined the national strike called for today this morning. The protest was to keep the umbrellas closed for two hours until 9:30 in the morning, all to send a signal and try to attract attention without creating inconvenience to the many bathers and tourists who crowd the beaches from early in the morning.

The strike was called because the beach concessions expired last December 31, and by 2024 they will have to be reassigned through a public tender. In Porto Pino the establishments that have joined are Butterfly beach club, Porto Pino beach club srls, Sun Beach and Luna beach Porto Pino.

As Luciano Lamantia of Luna Beach and Francesco Nurra of Porto Pino Beach club say, "we joined this strike because we are absolutely against the European Bolkestein directive, which after decades of extensions has decided to put concessions out to tender, with the great risk of being left out."
«When we participated in the tenders 20 years ago, nobody was interested and the law provided for the right to insist», continues Lamantia.
