The Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office has started investigations to ascertain the facts and any responsibilities in the case of the Rfi signal pole positioned on the tracks of the Sassari-Porto Torres railway line. On site, at kilometer 156, materials were found that suggest that the pole was unbolted and placed on the tracks on purpose . Only a fortuitous event avoided a tragedy. The train would have left an hour after the signal.
The episode, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, forced RFI to cancel trains departing at 6:00 PM from Sassari to Porto Torres and vice versa. Firefighters and RFI staff intervened to secure the area. The investigation is being entrusted to the Carabinieri who intervened to understand whether it was an accidental act or malicious behavior.
"It is becoming increasingly likely that the pole, along with other material found on the tracks near Ottava, was not caused by the collapse of the pole," says the union secretary of Filt Cgil Sardegna, Arnaldo Boeddu . "In that area there is an abandoned building owned by the railways that is frequented by children, who are not aware that that area is sensitive and that any behavior could be a serious danger for passengers and for themselves, considering the passage of trains."
Secretary Boeddu asked the Italian Railway Network to make those disused buildings inaccessible and to carry out an inspection and, if necessary, a check to prevent non-workers from approaching the tracks.
