An Algerian citizen believed to be responsible for a series of thefts that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Emerson area of Poetto has been reported by the Carabinieri of the Mobile Radio Unit.
The man allegedly first stole a cell phone and, shortly thereafter, a bag belonging to several young people. He was discovered and chased, abandoning the bag while fleeing. Shortly afterward, officers caught him on the street and found him in possession of another cell phone, which turned out to belong to a third person.
Taken to the police station for questioning, he allegedly provided false information, indicating a name and date of birth different from his real ones. His identity was subsequently verified through the AFIS system.
At the end of the investigations, he was reported for aggravated and continuous theft and for false declarations regarding his personal identity to a public official.
