Poaching in the Santa Gilla Lagoon: Thousands of euros in fines imposed

Three people reported for illegal fishing in the Santa Gilla lagoon.
The sanctions were imposed during a series of inspections by the Cagliari Forestry Department, with the support of the AEOP association and the fish and animal protection officers of Sa Illetta.
The inspections concerned the state-owned area granted to the exclusive fishing of the Santa Gilla Fish Consortium.
During the operation, numerous fishermen were checked and found guilty of fishing without a license; fishing in a designated area without authorization; use of unauthorized equipment; use of unauthorized professional gear; and use of gear not intended for recreational fishing.
At the end of the checks, as mentioned, 3 fines were imposed, for a total of 2,300 euros.
Furthermore, Forestry personnel found and seized non-compliant equipment hidden in the vegetation: shovels, nets, sieves, seine nets, irregular bertovelli nets, diving suits, and floating devices modified for illegal fishing.
