Summer hasn't even started yet, but the air transport system is already in danger of going haywire. On the territorial continuity front, places are starting to run out.
The next two weekends will be difficult for those traveling on the Milan-Cagliari axis. Connections are almost full on Thursday and Friday: only the last few tickets are on sale on the Aeroitalia website. And next week will be even worse: there will be no flights on Thursday 19, Friday 20, and Sunday 22 June. The company that manages continuity at the capital's airport and in Olbia has announced that new connections could be added in the next few hours.
Speaking of Aeroitalia: almost certainly the name change and the logo modifications – as decided by the Appellate College of the Court of Rome: the brand is too similar to that of the old Alitalia – will be postponed by a few months. Probably after the summer.
Meanwhile, the fares for all connections between the Island and the rest of Europe are already skyrocketing.
Next weekend on the Bergamo-Cagliari line – an alternative to Aeroitalia's territorial continuity – tickets are already over 250 euros per trip, a few cents less on EasyJet's Malpensa-Cagliari. And again: Ryanair's connections to Bologna are almost 300 euros.
