Flights are coming but too late for the summer. While Sardinia awaits the reform of territorial continuity with Rome and Milan, Brussels has given the green light to the region's call for new routes: 67 national and international connections. An important step to break the isolation and deseasonalise the island's tourist offer. And due to the technical times, it is precisely from the next off-season that the first positive effects will be seen.

The call was published on May 22. Companies will have 60 days to apply, until July 21. Then the offers will be evaluated with the technical investigation, any requests for integration, the definition of the rankings and the award. At that point the companies will need additional time for operational planning and the sale of tickets.

The plan, supported with 20 million euros of regional funds over two years, provides incentives of up to 50% of airport costs. As mentioned, there are 67 new national and international destinations. 32 connections to Cagliari will be activated, 19 to Alghero, 16 to and from Olbia.

The focus is on European destinations such as Berlin, Lisbon, Oslo and Prague, but also on intercontinental routes with routes to New York and Philadelphia, in addition to global hubs such as Istanbul and Dubai.
