The Local Police of Cagliari seized 170 tablets of a drug that was being sold as a narcotic substance, reporting a 38-year-old of Tunisian origin.

The discovery was made during a routine check in Piazza del Carmine , when the officers stopped the man on a scooter .

Suspicious of his nervous behaviour , the officers carried out a search, finding on him 13 blister packs of Lyrica, a drug containing pregabalin, used for epilepsy and anxiety disorders, but increasingly   often sold as a “street drug”. «Its improper use – explains the Cagliari Command – is the subject of alarm in several European countries and now also in Italy, as confirmed by the seizure that took place in Cagliari».
Payment cards and health cards registered to other individuals were also found in the possession of the 38-year-old - who did not have a residence permit and was unable to explain his possession of the drug.

For this reason, the man was taken to the Regional Cabinet of Scientific Police for identification. After the formal procedures, he was reported at large for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing and receiving stolen goods.
Investigations are now underway to trace the origin of the drug, which, although it can only be obtained with a medical prescription, has been reported for misuse, abuse and addiction by AIFA and could have been obtained through theft of medicines, use of false prescriptions, stolen prescription pads or purchased on the dark web.
