The family of Piera Pinna, originally from Bosa but resident in San Miniato, in the province of Pisa, who disappeared on 21 September in Medicina di Pescia, in the Pistoia area , while she was looking for mushrooms with her husband, cannot find peace .
The woman, who lived in the countryside around San Miniato, led a quiet life managing her farm.
Despite the use of drones equipped with thermal scanners and sniffer dogs, the official search found no trace of the woman . In the following weeks, groups composed of members of the Civil Protection and volunteers continued the search, but found nothing.
The Penelope Toscana association—which deals with missing persons and participated in the search—confirmed that " that area is particularly challenging, with sudden cliffs and terrain that becomes dangerously slippery with the first autumn rains." According to the family, however, "if she had fallen somewhere, her body would have been found." And from the village of San Miniato, acquaintances and the woman's husband assure that Piera Pinna knew those woods well , even though they're nicknamed the "Valley of Hell" due to the particularly rugged terrain and craggy cliffs, and could hardly have gotten lost.
A story that has thus taken on the character of a mystery, along with many inconsistencies that need to be clarified . First and foremost, the location of the disappearance : the report filed by her husband and son, who was not present that morning, mentions the Madonna del Tamburino, while in fact the car had been parked in the Pian di Galli area. Then there is the detail of the van that Piera always used to travel from home to the kiosk in Empoli, where she sold fruit and vegetables three times a week. The van remained locked inside the kiosk's gate on Saturday, September 20th. So how did Piera get home that evening? But did she really go back? Her husband has repeatedly said he can't explain what happened.
" Two months after her disappearance, our family is determined to keep this case on the radar, hoping to get the answers they're seeking, " the woman's family from Sardinia appealed. To leave no stone unturned, they recently hired a criminologist from Lucca to act as a consultant.
