The issue of the closure of the Santa Cristina junction has been resolved. After days of protest, a videoconference meeting was held, mediated by the regional councilor for Public Works, Antonio Piu, with the Paulilatino municipal administration and ANAS (National Roads Authority) at the table. The result was immediate: Mayor Domenico Gallus's ordinance was withdrawn and a technical meeting was set to begin on Monday to resolve all outstanding technical issues.
"We are satisfied," Gallus states, "because Anas, through engineer Salvatore Campione, whom we thank, has met our needs in a significant way." The road management body's commitment is clear: to reopen the junction on the SS 131 with a road system that allows access to both the archaeological site and the surrounding farms and livestock farms. The solution identified will allow the junction to be reopened without jeopardizing the continuation of the work, but will also allow full use of the area.
Starting Monday, the parties will begin working on the various technical procedures, each for its own role, thus enabling the achievement of an important result. This will also mark the end of a protest that the day before yesterday brought administrators, employees of the Archeotur cooperative, breeders, barracelli, and individual citizens to the streets. This will bring to a close a dispute that guarantees safety, access, and continuity of operations.
