Immediate environmental monitoring and remediation of the land occupied by the Serdiana landfill are required. This was requested by the Parteolla Citizens' Committee following the recent ruling by the Regional Administrative Court, which rejected the appeal of the Legal Intervention Group against the construction of a new 172,000 cubic meter facility for the disposal of non-hazardous waste.

"We acknowledge the ruling," the Committee states. "However, the decision does not eliminate the site's pollution, as confirmed by ARPAS, acknowledged by Ecoserdiana itself, and the subject of a criminal conviction. This is the point that, as a Committee, we believe should not be overlooked in the debate over the landfill expansion. Regardless of the outcome of the administrative appeal, it remains essential to ensure the protection of the land and the health of citizens by verifying that the safety measures are effectively completed."

The Committee's attention is focused, in particular, on the issue of wastewater discharge into the Rio Flumineddu, in the Dolianova area, even though the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) deemed the assessments and measures adopted in the expansion project sufficient to prevent future risks. The Committee calls for the involvement of the Municipality of Dolianova in issues relating to the discharge into the Rio Flumineddu and for periodic, transparent, and accessible environmental monitoring. In any case, the Committee believes it is urgent to proceed "with the safety and environmental remediation of the site, planning the permanent closure of the landfill with the construction of Module 8." A public meeting is scheduled for the coming weeks to inform residents and decide on future initiatives.
