After the episode that took place in via Schiavazzi in Cagliari, the municipal councilor Marcello Polastri raised the security alarm. A streetlight from public lighting fell on a car, causing extensive damage but fortunately without hurting anyone. The car belonged to a woman who lives nearby and who, explains Polastri, president of the Municipal Heritage and Safety Commission, "had parked about 3 meters away from the same plant at the base of which a considerable presence of rust is visible, probably caused by a phenomenon erosive while on the concrete support, which should have supported the pole, a considerable crack ".

According to some witnesses, the pole "would have fallen due to age (coinciding with the strong gusts of wind)". An element that worries the councilor according to which "in the Cagliari district of Sant'Elia, there are many similar metal systems installed 30 years ago and remained unused".

Hence the decision to request an inspection of the entire district and urgent measures.
