Approximately one thousand square meters of public beach have been illegally occupied and vegetation removed, in a protected area, to make way for a hotel's beach club. The La Maddalena Coast Guard has confirmed the illegal occupation of a large portion of the beach by a local hotel in the Municipality of Palau. Analysis of the orthophotos available on the geoportal and a subsequent site inspection revealed the presence of sun loungers, umbrellas, and walkways on the beach, without any state title. Furthermore, verification of the historical sequence of the images revealed a progressive transformation of the landscape: the Mediterranean scrub has been removed to make room for beach facilities.
An unauthorized occupation of approximately 917 square meters of public maritime property was discovered, deprived of free public use through the permanent installation of beach equipment. Therefore, the military proceeded with the preventive seizure of 110 sunbeds and 42 umbrellas, freeing up a total of approximately 796 square meters of beach . For the remaining area affected by the investigations, the proper repositioning of the equipment within the regularly assigned area was ordered. In-depth analyses of the orthophotos also revealed signs of alteration to the protected landscape area, with the elimination of Mediterranean scrub and progressive modification of the original natural layout of the beach.
