A television with footage missing, people entering the apartment on Via Marche for unexplained reasons and failing to help the dying victim, and frightened witnesses escorted into the courtroom by the Carabinieri. The trial into the murder of Miguel Angel Paez (massacred in Olbia on February 3, 2024) is raising alarming new questions about the crime.
The last prosecution witnesses, brought into the courtroom by the Carabinieri, testified before the judges of the Sassari Assize Court. This was a necessary measure, given that the witnesses had never appeared before the Assize Court, despite being duly notified.
These are the people who, on February 5, 2024, two days after the brutal beating, found Paez in his bed, dying and covered in blood. Olbia residents Michael Brundu, Giuliano Petta, and Alex Russo are accused of the murder.
Sometime between February 3rd and 5th, someone entered the home of the 70-year-old retired Argentine chef and stole his television and a device containing images of the man's encounters with other people. These encounters could explain the motives for the Via Marche crime.
Alex Russo's lawyer, Cristina Cherchi, highlighted the serious inconsistencies in the reconstruction of the facts at the heart of the trial through her questions.
For example, there's the circumstance of videos that may have captured other individuals involved in the case. Paez, the two witnesses said, when he was found, said with his last remaining strength: "Five of them beat me." Who were the Argentine's other tormentors? How many people entered the victim's home and left her dying without calling for help? The trial resumes next Monday with Alex Russo's examination.
