Firefighter divers intervened to rescue six migrants—all men, self-proclaimed Algerians—from a rock at Cape Spartivento.

The rescue operations began around midnight and ended at 4 a.m. at the request of the Cagliari Coast Guard, which spotted them with a patrol boat.

The six men, visited by 118, are well and were handed over to the police who took them to the reception centre in Monastir.

According to an initial reconstruction, the small boat they were trying to reach the coast on ended up on the rocks, being damaged and running aground.

The castaways were suffering from the cold, but none of them were found in serious conditions.
