Over a hundred people gathered in Piazza Garibaldi this afternoon to express their support for the Iranian people protesting against the Ayatollahs' regime.

The sit-in, organized by the Tonino Pascali – Sardegna Radicale Association, in collaboration with Amnesty International Cagliari, saw the participation of various groups, including the Cagliari Democratic Party, Il Manifesto Sardo, the Young European Federalists, and the European Federalist Movement.

Also present was Urban Planning Councilor Matteo Lecis Cocco Ortu, who spoke to reiterate that the Municipality of Cagliari stands in solidarity with those courageously taking to the streets in Iran, literally defying fate.

According to estimates by international human rights organizations, approximately 30,000 people have been arrested, thousands killed, and just as many are still missing. Photos of some of the victims were displayed among the many signs at the sit-in, along with those calling for justice and an end to the dictatorship.

An effigy of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was set ablaze amid chants of "Freedom" and "Justice for Iran," also sung by some Iranians present. The Iranian flag was also waved. Not the current one representing the Islamic Republic, but the lion-and-sun emblem, the Asian country's official flag until 1979.
