One ton and 700 kilos of untraceable fish were seized by the Sant'Antioco Coast Guard following a joint operation with the Sulcis Iglesiente Local Health Authority (ASL) as part of a crackdown on illegal fishing.
The fish products lacked the required traceability documentation. During the inspection, a cold storage unit was also seized, found to lack the necessary permits, and the operator was fined €11,500, in accordance with current fishing and food safety regulations.
A significant portion of the seized fish, after checks carried out by the ASL veterinary service, was declared fit for human consumption and will therefore be donated to charitable organizations, with direct delivery to Caritas.
