Over 1,000 square meters of public beach have been returned to the public thanks to a major operation by the Olbia Coast Guard against illegal beach occupation. Yesterday, following a targeted operation along the Olbia and Arzachena coastline, the military identified two illegal occupations of state-owned land, seizing numerous structures used to reclaim portions of the beach from public use.

The operation, conducted by the "Sea and Safe Lakes 2026" team together with the Environmental Police Operations Unit (NOPA) of the Olbia Port Authority, began in the early hours of the morning and resulted in the criminal seizure of beach umbrellas, sun loungers, tables, chairs, sofas, armchairs, outdoor seating, flower boxes, and removable metal structures permanently installed on the beach. Those responsible were charged with violating Article 1161 of the Navigation Code, and the crime was reported to the competent judicial authority.

The action is part of a broader surveillance plan developed by the Northern Sardinia Maritime Directorate, which is committed throughout the summer season to combating illegal occupations, protecting the coastal environment, and defending everyone's right to free use of the beaches. Controls will be further strengthened as the mid-August holiday approaches. "Attention will be paid both to bathers who leave umbrellas and equipment on the beach to "reserve" a spot, and to commercial operators who occupy spaces beyond those authorized or operate without the necessary permits," warns the Olbia Maritime Directorate. "The objective is clear: to prevent any form of misappropriation of state-owned maritime property, ensuring legality, environmental protection, and equal access to the beaches for all."
