Elodie is only six years old, but she has the courage of someone who has already faced storms that would frighten adults.
Since September 2022, her life has become a daily battle against hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), an extremely rare and aggressive disease that has affected her kidneys and threatened her vital organs.
After three months in intensive care at Genoa's Gaslini Hospital, intubated, undergoing dialysis and emergency treatment, Elodie fought without giving up . And today, despite everything, she still manages to smile.
Tomorrow, Saturday, July 19th, an entire town will rally around her. In Orroli, in the heart of the Sarcidano region, an event called "Orroli unita per Elodie" will be held, created thanks to the commitment of the Pro Loco and the generosity of the community .
The event will take place in the elementary school square, starting at 6:00 PM. There will be children's entertainment, Sardinian dances, a miraculous catch of fish, and a raffle. All proceeds will go to Elodie's family, who is currently abroad undergoing further treatment. These expensive treatments are essential to give her hope.
Her father, Lorenzo, left his job months ago to be by her side and embark on a complex medical journey, involving innovative rehabilitation therapies, specialist check-ups, and daily care. "They're now abroad for further treatment, but they're scraping the last of their savings," says her uncle, Efisio Tronci, originally from Nurri and a resident of Genoa for years.
Elodie's story has already made its way across Italy: it reached the stands of the Ferraris stadium in Genoa, where fans in the Curva Nord displayed a banner that read: "Princesses deserve fairy tales, Elodie defeats the villain," accompanied by flyers and fundraisers. And there was no shortage of response from her homeland: her uncle Efisio addressed the Sardinians: "They are a generous people, they know what it means to help. I ask everyone, even Cagliari fans, to embrace this cause, perhaps by displaying a banner and raising awareness across the island about Elodie's struggle. She dreams only of a future without monsters, without dragons."
These words did not fall on deaf ears: the Sconvolts Cagliari responded discreetly, but with great heart, by contributing to the collection.
Now, however, all of Orroli is mobilizing through a collective gesture that combines celebration and solidarity, to give respite to those who are fighting the impossible. For those who can't be there, a GoFundMe fundraiser is active: https://www.gofundme.com/f/4c5dsz-diamo-una-speranza-a-elodie. "Every help, even the smallest, can make a difference," says Uncle Efisio. "Elodie is a little girl who faced the unimaginable, but with the love and support of so many, she can have her happy ending. We can't let the bad guy win." And tomorrow, Orroli will say no, that won't be the case. Because Elodie's story deserves a vibrant ending.
