The Carabinieri of the Oristano station arrested the man who on the evening of Wednesday, January 22, entered into action inside the Church of San Francesco, damaging the furnishings and taking away some sacred objects: a thurible, a basket for holy water and a stamp with the church's logo. The man, who must answer for aggravated theft and damage, is under house arrest as established by the order of the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Oristano at the request of the prosecutor.

The electronic bracelet was also placed. The thief, before entering into action inside the church, had, in sequence, committed several thefts, taking a powder fire extinguisher from inside the waiting room of the Arst bus station in Via Cagliari, two motorcycle helmets secured to the under-seat compartment of a scooter left parked in Via Duomo and, finally, a backpack from a bicycle parked right in front of the Church of San Francesco. Then, passing through the construction site of the former convent, the serial thief gained access, through a cavity, to the church.

The military personnel of the Arma, analyzing together with their colleagues from the Scientific Investigations Department of Cagliari, the images extracted from the municipal and private video surveillance systems of the area, identified the perpetrator of the crimes, already known to the police for having committed other crimes of the same kind. During the search, carried out both in the Psychiatry department of the San Martino hospital in Oristano where he had been hospitalized, and in his home, the clothes and shoes that the man had worn during the serial thefts were found and seized.
