Oristano, the Formula Kite World Championship in Torre Grande

From tomorrow until October 17, 2021, the Formula Kite World Championship will start in Torre Grande, the first international competition that will accompany kiteboarding to its Olympic debut scheduled in Paris in 2024.
For the occasion, 170 athletes will stop in Oristano, accompanied by technical and preparatory staff. Over 35 nations will be represented.
Once again, alongside the most exciting kite competitions, there is Sardinia which finds in the Gulf of Oristano, in the breezes and currents that characterize it and in the long tradition linked to windsports, the ideal scenario for the assignment of the world title. .
The debut of this world competition, labeled "IKA - International Kiteboarding Association", will take place with the "individual" format, the same that we will see in Paris in 3 years, which includes rankings divided between men and women.
In 2019 Torre Grande had already been the protagonist of the international kiteboarding scenario, with the organization of the Formula Kite European Championship, which attracted almost 100 athletes from all over Europe, becoming one of the flagship events of the program of events at Italian level.
The inscriptions already count important world names, including Axel Mazzella, Toni Vodisek, Julia Damasiewicz, Eleanor Aldridge, Sofia Tomasoni, Florian Gruber, Denis Taradin.
All nations will be represented at Torre Grande, from Chile to Poland, from France to Estonia via Indonesia to New Zealand.
The declared objective of this collaboration path between the International Kiteboarding Association and the organization of the Open Water Challenge, which will host the World Cup, is to make Sardinia a fundamental cornerstone in the four-year Olympic program, capable of to play a leading role in the global development of this discipline.
The event is organized with the support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Oristano, the Foundation of Sardinia, the Oristano Foundation, Marine Oristanesi, the "Sinis Peninsula - Mal di Ventre Island" Marine Protected Area.
In particular, the Regional Tourism Councilor Gianni Chessa focuses heavily on national and international sporting events that throughout the summer and until the end of the year have made and will make Sardinia appreciated as a privileged destination for the tourist flows of a sector that in this reopening phase is catalyzing the interest of thousands of enthusiasts ready to arrive on the island even in the shoulder months, allowing tourist facilities to make ends meet in a 2020 dramatically marked by the health emergency.
