When he heard his name, he was speechless, incredulous, too emotional to cheer. Pietro Filippo Orrù, 7, will take on the role of su componidoreddu of the Sartilla 'e canna of Oristano on February 8th, in Sant'Efisio, the historic district of Su Brugu.

This morning, immediately after Mass, his name was drawn at random in the parish hall, as per tradition, by Father Alessandro Floris, in front of a large crowd. The mayor of Oristano, Massimiliano Sanna, was also present.

For little Pietro, a dream come true, a joy beyond measure. Helping him on the big day will be Alice Muresu, 8, in second place, and Giovanni Greggiu in third.

The ceremony was accompanied by the mini drummers and trumpeters of the Oristano Pro Loco led by maestro Luca Sanna.

The countdown has begun. The Sartilla 'e canna has been organized by the Association for the Protection and Promotion of Cane Horses for over 30 years. It's an event that attracts countless children from across the province and beyond every year. Meanwhile, in the Su Brugu parish hall, countless reeds adorned with rosettes and transformed into cane horses are already on display.

At the end of January, the reeds were collected in the city's countryside and cleaned. Then the various pieces were assembled.

Up to the creation of the little horse. The horse will then be used by children on the day of the Sartilla 'e canna to imitate the real Sartiglia knights. But everything will take place in miniature and in carnival costumes. From the dressing up of the mini race leader to the race for the star. A mix of fun and excitement.
