The Oristano State Police executed a warrant for the arrest of a man convicted of aggravated burglary of an elderly couple.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the man, known for his expertise in appliance repairs, had arrived at the couple's home under the pretext of fixing a kitchen. Taking advantage of a moment of distraction by one of the victims, he had rummaged through the living room drawers, managing to find the woman's purse containing €1,000, the amount of her pension, which she had collected that same day at the post office.
The victim, upon realizing the theft, immediately contacted 911, but by the time officers arrived, the man had already fled. Subsequent investigations by the Flying Squad, supported by the Forensic Police and analysis of video surveillance footage, along with the detailed description provided by the couple, led to the identification of the perpetrator.
The man, a resident of the Oristano area and homeless, was tracked down by investigators, arrested, and taken to Massama, where he will serve a sentence of 1 year, 7 months, and 15 days in prison, in addition to compensating the victims and paying court costs.
