Two purebred dogs , a German Shepherd and a Bullmastiff , were frightened and disoriented and wandered along the roadway of the SP1 provincial road that connects Oristano to Marina di Torre Grande . The incident was noticed by motorists, who alerted the operations center of the Oristano Provincial Carabinieri Command. The military responded to the scene yesterday morning.
In addition to the animals' health, the risk of accidents on the stretch of road in question also raised serious concerns. The Carabinieri officers initially blocked traffic in both directions, then approached cautiously. The two dogs, despite being tired and frail, were rescued.
Veterinarians from the Oristano Local Health Authority, thanks to the microchips, were able to trace the owner, a man living in Cabras who had released the animals the night before because his property had been affected by a fire. To prevent a bad fate for the two dogs, he had opened the gate, allowing them to escape.
