A "sophisticated system of irregularities in the submission of grant applications, aimed at improperly obtaining funding for renewable energy projects" was uncovered by the Oristano Guardia di Finanza , following an investigation aimed at ensuring the correct use of public resources from the PNRR earmarked for the construction of photovoltaic plants in Sardinia.
The investigation, conducted by the Oristano Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle) military, focused on non-repayable grants awarded by the European Union to boost public and private investment. The grants range from 30% to 80% of the expenditure incurred for the construction of photovoltaic systems essential to the operations of agricultural, livestock, and agro-industrial businesses. The grants benefit companies that declare a turnover of more than €7,000.
During the investigations , it was discovered that a female farmer had improperly received a grant of over €45,000 for the installation of a photovoltaic system . However, the police discovered that the application for the grant was ineligible because the sole proprietorship, during the tax period covered by the financing, had not achieved the expected turnover and had not allocated the system to a company building, but rather to a luxury villa used as a residence.
For this reason, the woman was reported to the Ordinary Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Oristano and to the European Public Prosecutor's Office for unlawful receipt of public funds. The Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors was also informed of the matter.
