The mother who killed her 13-year-old daughter Chiara Carta in Silì two years ago will appear before the Cagliari Court of Assizes . Judge Cristiana Argiolas ordered the indictment of Monica Vinci, 54, late this morning, as requested by prosecutor Valerio Bagattini. The trial will begin on February 4th. The latest report from the Capoterra Rems facility, where the woman is currently being held, was crucial in the preliminary hearing : according to the facility's director, there are currently no grounds for modifying the security measures. This suggests that the 54-year-old, represented by lawyer Gianluca Aste, is still considered a social danger.
This factor paved the way for the trial, given that, given the danger she posed to society, a dismissal of the case could not be issued. The judges of the Assize Court will therefore evaluate the extremely delicate case in light of the investigation documents and the various expert reports emerging from the preliminary hearing. Professor Maurizio Marasco, expert witness for Judge Federica Fulgheri, and Professor Giampaolo Pintor, consultant for defense attorneys Gianluca Aste and Federica Sanna, agree that Monica Vinci was completely infirm at the time of the tragedy. Both cite the woman's past illnesses and emphasize her danger to herself and others. Professor Stefano Ferracuti (a professor at La Sapienza University of Rome) for prosecutor Valerio Bagattini, however, maintains that the 54-year-old is semi-infirm.
The investigation
According to the investigation, the 54-year-old had been suffering from severe personal distress for some time. She had been undergoing treatment in the past, but the discomfort worsened again, leading to the tragedy of February 18, 2023, in the house on Via Martiri del Risorgimento in Silì, when the woman stabbed her daughter several times and then attempted an extreme act by jumping out of the window.
An endless drama for a young life cut short, for the father Piero Carta and his family and on the other hand for a mother, who lives with the very heavy burden of what she has committed.
