The system is always the same. An unsuspecting person presents himself as a lawyer and deceives vulnerable people to extort money. The latest episodes have ended badly for the scammers: two men originally from Campania were arrested by the Carabinieri of Oristano and Torre del Greco by order of the investigating judge of the Oristano Court.

The contested facts date back to last May when the two defrauded an 85-year-old woman from Oristano by asking her for money to get her grandchildren out of trouble after they were involved in a serious road accident. The woman trusted them and handed over 3,000 euros. The same system was used against an 88-year-old woman from Ruinas who was led to believe that her daughter had hit a person with her car. The elderly woman handed over 6,000 euros and jewelry. When the two elderly women realized they had been defrauded, they filed complaints and immediately began investigations by the Carabinieri of Oristano and Mogoro who, thanks to the footage from the cameras, checks on the lists of passengers departing and arriving on the island and photographic recognition, were able to identify the scammers. The two, who will have to answer for aggravated fraud, are in the Naples Poggioreale prison.

In the Oristano area, in the last few months, 7 incidents of scams targeting the elderly have been reported and 8 precautionary measures have been issued.
