He will no longer feel different and, above all, will be able to communicate and make himself understood. A nine-year-old boy, deaf since birth, who attends a city elementary school, will receive the support he needs to understand lessons. This is the stipulation of the agreement reached two days ago between the child's family's lawyer and the lawyer of the Municipality of Oristano, which will take effect on February 18th. The Municipality will therefore respect the child's educational plan , guaranteeing 27 hours of support per week for communication in sign language .

And not 29, as the parents had initially requested from the municipal administration, given that the IEP states that 30 hours are required to ensure the right to education for a child with severe hearing loss. The two remaining hours are spent in the gym, which is why assistance is not necessary. A sad story that therefore has a happy ending. But not after a few setbacks. "The case is concluded," comments the family's lawyer Francesca Macis. "The Municipality will activate LIS communication assistance for the minor next week for the requested hours."

The case began several months ago. The parents had decided to entrust the matter to a lawyer because the Municipality kept insisting that the funds were insufficient to activate the service . On October 10th, the lawyer sent the first formal notice, requesting the immediate activation of the service. The second was sent at the end of October, as no response had been received in the meantime. Since the problem had not been resolved, the lawyer filed an appeal with the Court of Oristano . On December 6th, the ruling was issued ordering the Municipality to intervene. However, the Authority subsequently appealed the order. According to the Municipality, jurisdiction fell to the Regional Administrative Court, not the Court of Oristano. Now, however, the parties have reached an agreement.
