Oristano: A pensioner hospitalized for West Nile fever has died.

He had been hospitalized for about a month with West Nile fever. A retired lawyer died late yesterday evening at San Martino Hospital.
This is believed to be the third death from West Nile in the Oristano area, although no official announcement has yet been made from the local health authority. The 75-year-old, who was hospitalized in intensive care, had certainly been diagnosed with West Nile.
His condition gradually worsened until his death late on Saturday evening.
This year, two more people in the province have died after being infected by mosquitoes that transmit the virus: a 90-year-old woman from Oristano died at the end of July; on August 28, a 79-year-old resident of the city died.
There have been 25 confirmed infections in the province this year.
