One of the strands of Operation Numisma, conducted by the Carabinieri unit for the protection of Cagliari's cultural heritage, concluded with the recovery of a priceless coin.

The military, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Tempio Pausania, Gregorio Capasso, seized a gold tremissis, minted in Lucca between the 8th and 9th centuries, during the reign of Charlemagne, after it was delivered to a collector. The illicit delivery of this state-owned asset, numbering only four pieces worldwide, took place in Olbia.

The investigation is still ongoing . This morning, the head of the Gallura prosecutors, Gregorio Capasso, confirmed the importance of the operation conducted by the specialized unit of the force and did not provide further details on the activity, which is far from being concluded.

The Numisma operation has already led to the prosecution of seven people and the recovery of hundreds of coins destined for international auctions. The tremissis will now be handed over for display in a national museum . It was likely found in Sardinia about thirty years ago and then passed from hand to hand, completely illegally.
