Work on the four new video-integrated operating rooms at the Armando Businco Oncology Hospital in Cagliari "must adhere to the planned schedule, which calls for completion by June 30, 2026." This was confirmed by Arnas Brotzu's extraordinary commissioner, Maurizio Marcias, during a meeting with a delegation of patient associations, in the presence of a representative of the Works Management.
Marcias explained that activities are proceeding "normally" within the hospital and that, at the same time, work is also underway to reduce waiting lists thanks to funds left over from the Covid years. "A valuable budget," he added, "which is allowing us to speed up procedures, especially for breast surgeries."
The associations – represented by Maria Grazia Caligaris (SDR), Maria Fois Maglione (Il Giardino di Lu), Gian Carlo Nonis (Arcadia Sardegna), Carlo Cabula, Maria Teresa Serra and Alfredo Schirru (LILT) – expressed their concerns about rumours of a supposed blockage of the works , which raised fears of a delay in the delivery of the operating rooms and a possible weakening of the regional role of Businco.
The commissioner clarified that work began on May 29th with a delicate demolition operation that allowed the underground utilities to be preserved intact. The project, entrusted by the Ministry to Invitalia, was awarded to the Ciro Menotti Consortium, based in Ravenna, while the executive design was handled by the Calvi studio in Pavia. The ministerial Verification Group initially reported approximately 300 non-conformities, which have since been gradually remedied. The final technical meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, a step that will allow for rapid progress according to the schedule.
The representative of the Works Management added that the project has been restructured and will soon become operational. The new prefabricated structures will arrive shortly thereafter, allowing for expedited construction and installation. There are also no problems with financing, which is proceeding as planned. At the end of the meeting, Marcias assured the associations that they will receive regular updates on the progress of the work.
