He was on vacation in the Sardinian capital when the Carabinieri tracked him down and arrested him. A 49-year-old Romanian citizen, wanted internationally since 2014, was detained by the Investigative Unit of the Cagliari Provincial Command in execution of a European Arrest Warrant issued by his country's judicial authorities.

The man, as reported in a press release from the Carabinieri, was located in a hospitality facility in the city, and is believed to be the promoter of a criminal organization active between Romania and Italy in the early 2000s .

According to investigations by Romanian authorities, the gang specialized in the exploitation of compatriots brought to Italy: some were forced to commit thefts in shops in Genoa, others – especially women – were forced into prostitution.

The operation, carried out by the Capturands Squad at the end of a long and complex investigation, allowed the fugitive to be brought to justice after more than ten years of research.

After his arrest, the 49-year-old was brought before the Court of Appeal of the Cagliari Tribunal, which, after validating the arrest, ordered him placed under house arrest pending a final decision on his extradition.
