He punched him and knocked out two teeth. "But he suffered from periodontitis," defense lawyer Luciano Sechi told the court in Sassari today, during arguments regarding what happened in Alghero in 2022. A 43-year-old man attacked a bar patron, for reasons that were never clarified, causing him to lose a couple of teeth.
Prosecutor Antonio Piras is seeking a 10-month sentence for the man, who is charged with serious assault, but his defense lawyer questions his interpretation. This is also because his client, he claims, suffered a permanent gash on his cheek during the altercation. The injury was caused by a glass broken by the assailant, which he allegedly used to hit the other man, and which, the court heard, constitutes self-defense.
According to the lawyer, the injured party's testimony was "cumbersome" and, furthermore, the man had not filed a complaint but, given the accusation of serious injury, the proceedings had been initiated ex officio.
Judge Stefania Mosca-Angelucci ultimately handed down a six-month suspended sentence, recognizing mitigating circumstances.
