Inserted in the regional planning of the continuation of the "securing of the decorated domus de janas", the necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu , one of the most precious archaeological sites in the city of Porto Torres , will be the subject of a conservation and valorisation intervention thanks to the resources, equal to 150 thousand euros, allocated by the council of the Sardinia Region with a resolution adopted on the proposal of the regional department for cultural heritage, Andrea Biancareddu.
The monument stands at the entrance to the city of Porto Torres, 22 tombs built starting from the recent Neolithic (3200-2800 BC) and constantly used until the Early Bronze Age, around the 16th century BC. Several hypogea composed of several rooms with entrance in the shape of cockpit or corridor.
The Region thus responded to the various requests for funding received from local authorities, involved in the procedure for the recognition of the domus de janas by UNESCO, also received through a note from Cesim (Identity and Memory Study Centre), which highlighted the need and urgency to carry out safety, conservation and valorisation interventions in some of the sites, considering the advanced state of the UNESCO recognition procedure of the “Art and Architecture in the Prehistory of Sardinia” project.
The Psd'Az municipal group leader, Bastianino Spanu, also urged the Region's intervention . The complex of domus de janas dug into a bank of limestone rock, kept just outside the town of Porto Torres, represents a heritage of particular importance chosen by the municipal council to enter the tentative list, the list of candidates for UNESCO recognition . The executive had joined the network of municipalities that signed the memorandum of understanding for the valorisation of UNESCO recognition of the domus de janas as a world heritage site.
