Omicron variant, Sardinia first in Italy for swab sequencing
More than 15% of the tests monitored on the island, better than Trentino and Abruzzo. Coghe (Aou Cagliari): "Fundamental work to contain the epidemic"

Sardinia is the first region in Italy for swab sequencing to intercept and follow the evolution of Covid-19 variants, in particular the new "South African" mutation which has been assigned the name of Omicron and which has triggered the alarm in everything the world.
The figure emerges from the latest bulletin of the Higher Institute of Health on variants, relating to the period 25 September-8 November 2021. Sardinia, with the Aou of Cagliari in the front row, has in fact sequenced 15.1% of the swabs, percentage that places it ahead of Trentino-Alto Adige 10.5% and Abruzzo 7.5%.
"Sequencing is essential to find the variants and effectively deal with the pandemic - says Ferdinando Coghe health director of the Cagliari Aou - Sardinia with the University Hospital of Cagliari and the Aou of Sassari are committed with great determination to fight against Covid-19 ".
