Work to expand the emergency room at the Giovanni Paolo II hospital in Olbia will begin in February and will last approximately a year .
The ASL announced this, asking citizens for "patience" and specifying that the inconvenience will be "minimized".
The restyling project that will provide the facility with new spaces was presented in the hospital's V Colonne room. And in the next few days there will be a meeting between the staff and the company carrying out the works, aimed at better organizing the regular continuation of activities in the presence of the construction site.
"Every activity - explains the director general of the ASL Gallura Marcello Acciaro - will be planned to minimize the inconvenience to users and operators . We ask everyone for a little patience, this is an important project for the entire territory".
A new building will be built in continuity with the existing one, of about six hundred square meters , which will also have a pre-triage room directly connected to the waiting room. Also planned are monitoring and observation areas, a space dedicated to the installation of a CT scan and internal toilets for patients only, separate from those of the staff.
The expansion, the DG emphasizes, "will allow us to have a more modern, welcoming and functional structure for managing patients, with the hope of also increasing the attractiveness towards healthcare professionals". After all, the Olbia emergency room in the summer serves "a large Italian and foreign population that flocks to the facility, tripling the number of visits" . Above all, for this reason, it is essential to reorganize the spaces to reduce the risk of overcrowding.
The work will last about a year. "The project - explains the Director of the Technical Area of the ASL Gallura, Paolo Tauro - benefits from regional funding for the reorganization of the management of the structure in the event of any future activities related to the pandemic. But it will also allow the company to combat overcrowding, especially in the summer , by increasing the spaces thanks to the relocation of the current hot room, the improvement of the road system to regulate the flow of ambulances, the pedestrian paths and the expansion of the waiting room with attached toilets".
"With the new structure - concludes Acciaro - it will allow a more efficient management of flows, optimizing the management of less serious codes. The hope is also to reduce waiting times and pressure on the hospital and the emergency room ".
