Preparatory operations for the recovery of the yacht Atina began this morning in front of the Olbia beach of Saline.

The luxury vessel, 47 metres long, built in 2008 at the Heesen shipyard and flying the Cook Islands flag, sank last August due to a violent fire.

The Maritime Directorate of Olbia and the Tempio Prosecutor's Office (which has opened an investigation into the shipwreck) are supervising the recovery, the wreck will be brought to the surface using the pontoon Conquest MB1 (of the Dutch company Dutch Offshore). The pontoon is 136 meters long and has a powerful pedestal crane, it was used during the complex removal activity of the Costa Concordia ship.

Underwater inspections began today in Olbia, with about ten operators at work. The Turkish owner of the Atina has presented a recovery plan for the yacht, which has been examined by the Maritime Directorate of Olbia. According to rumors, there is also a safe with money and jewelry on board the yacht.
