A sterilization center was inaugurated yesterday at the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Olbia. The facility is divided into three functional areas: dirty, packaging, and sterile. These zones are separated by dedicated filter areas equipped with interlocking doors, in compliance with all industry technical standards, including those required for accreditation.
The plant is being built as part of the contract awarded by Ares Sardegna to the Demi Sterilis/Servizi Italia consortium for the management of the surgical instrument sterilization and rental service for Sardinia's healthcare authorities. Other sterilization points have already been activated at the hospitals of Oristano, San Gavino Monreale, Tempio, and Isili, as well as at the Lanusei Hospital and the Civil Hospital in Alghero. Other plants currently under construction will follow at the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro and the Segni Hospital in Ozieri.
At the end of the management contract (which also includes the employment of specialized personnel), the sterilization centers will remain the property of the Sardinian health authorities.
