A few days after a serious incident at an Asian restaurant in the center of Olbia, where an Algerian man armed with a knife burst in and attacked four people, a flash mob was held today to demand that institutions "pay more attention and take concrete action in the face of a situation of degradation, aggression, and insecurity that can no longer be ignored."
Organized by the city branch of Fratelli d'Italia, by Gioventù Nazionale who renounced their party symbols in favor of the cause 'Let's reclaim our Olbia', and by two spontaneous movements, Reazione Terranova and Olbia Sicura, the sit-in marched for a few hundred meters in the block under special surveillance for some time and the scene of the latest episode of violence .
Concluding with the Mameli anthem, the flash mob turned into a procession that reached the restaurant run by a Chinese family , in solidarity with the victims. Behind the banner "Degradation and violence: children of indifference," the protesters gathered, chanting "Olbia is ours and belongs to us."
"This demonstration isn't driven by racism, but by fear," says Eros Orlando, a representative of Reazione Terranoa. "Asking for security isn't synonymous with racism, nor does it mean hating anyone," adds Federico Ciaddu, a representative of Olbia Sicura. "We're not here against anyone; on the contrary, we're here to show solidarity with the non-Italian residents, but with the Italians, because they work here and are fully integrated into the community," adds Marco Piro, coordinator of FdI, who applauds the actions taken so far by Mayor Settimo Nizzi to combat violence and degradation in the historic center.
