Olbia, emergency room lacks doctors: risk of night stoppage from March

The emergency room in Olbia risks being left unstaffed during the night hours, starting next March 1st, due to a shortage of doctors. The reason is linked to the expiration of three “pay-per-use” contracts, which would reduce the number of professionals on staff. A problem that would end up diverting the most serious patients to the hospitals in Sassari or Nuoro.
"To make up for the shortcomings, in particular to ensure assistance to the major codes," reports Lega MP Dario Giagoni, "in October 2024, the ASL Gallura resorted to entrusting part of the service to an external cooperative. With the support of three doctors, to whom three more were added (so-called tokenists), through another call for tenders, it made it possible to cover the shifts, albeit with a reduced staff of eight doctors (two permanent and six external) , compared to the 19 doctors present five years ago."
"Despite this emergency," Giagoni continues, "to date, to address the problem, the Regional Health Authority (Ares) does not appear to have launched a tender to recruit new medical staff, nor have concrete solutions been proposed at the regional level to resolve the shortage of doctors for the major codes in the Gallura ASL." The deputy has presented a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, to clarify the issue and to urge immediate intervention . "The question aims to raise awareness among the competent institutions on the need to guarantee the continuity of the emergency health service, which is vital for the health of citizens and tourists who visit Gallura, especially during periods of greatest influx."
