The Finance Police of the Sassari Provincial Command, together with officials from the Sassari Customs and Monopolies Agency, have completed a customs inspection aimed at combating the illicit importation of luxury goods from non-EU countries.
The investigation, conducted jointly by the local ADM unit and the Olbia Guardia di Finanza Group, involved a UK-flagged yacht moored in a shipyard in the industrial area. The investigation revealed that the vessel had been continuously docked in the European Union for more than 18 months: a violation of the maximum time limits set for the temporary admission regime, which allows maritime transport vehicles registered in third countries to remain in the European customs territory exempt from border duties, provided they comply with the re-exportation deadlines.
The vessel—estimated to be worth approximately €600,000—has been seized. The owner, an Italian citizen residing abroad, has been charged with smuggling for having brought and kept the vessel in Italy without a customs declaration, as well as with evading import VAT, estimated at over €100,000.
